Monica FosterKemah Texas (77565) is a beautiful 1,750 resident community on the Bay at the entrance to Clear Lake on Highway 146. It was founded in 1898 and is known as the “gateway to the bay” given its location on the entrance to Clear Lake. It’s name comes from the Native American Karankawa tribe word meaning “wind in my face”. Given it’s seaside beginnings and the frequent gulf breezes the name is not surprising. It’s main industry is boating and tourism, most notably the Kemah Boardwalk waterfront entertainment complex which includes unique eclectic shops, galleries, restaurants, and amusement rides. The Lighthouse District also has shops, restaurants, spas, and bed and breakfasts. Kemah is home to one of the largest please boat fleets in the U.S. Residents and visitors alike can partake in the annual blessing of the fleet, the Grand Boat Parade (Yachty Gras), Fourth of July fireworks, music festivals, runs such as the Kemah Triathlon and community events.
